Skerries Senior Sunday Side came away with all three points today at Park lane against Leixlip United following a terrific and energetic performance put in by all. The first half started off with great pace with pressure being put on by both sides in the middle of the pitch and outside both sides’ boxes. It was Leixlip who struck first however against the run of play despite most of the chances being created by Skerries to go 1-0 ahead. Skerries didn’t drop the heads however and began to get even more involved in the game ensuring that Leixlip had very few chances afterwards. The game was drawn level around half way into the first half with a fantastic shot from Bob McKenna from the far right hand corner of the box and Skerries didn’t stop there adding to their goal tally close to the end of the first half with some brilliant passing play between the front line to find Brian Snow who slotted it away to make it 2-1 just before the halftime whistle. Despite the lead Skerries certainly didn’t start the second half off on the defensive instead opting to put pressure on the Leixlip defence from the front back. The pressure paid off as very early into the second half Brian Snow again added to his current goal tally with an impressive chip shot from the edge of the box giving Skerries a comfortable lead of two goals. Skerries continued to mount the pressure on a well put together Leixlip side with particular brilliant work from the Skerries fullbacks and wingers creating many of the chances late game. We’d like to wish Leixlip all the best with the rest of their season and look forward to playing them again.
